Robert Macauley pleaded guilty to fraud by false representation at South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court on July 27. Prosecutor Lee Dacre said the 37-year-old committed the offence on May 30 when he attempted to pay for items using a £20 counterfeit note at a Spar store on North Road in Kirkby Stephen. The court heard a member of staff returned the money and required the defendant to pay with an alternative £20 note. Magistrates fined the defendant, of Marlborough Road, Heysham, £276 and ordered him to pay a £110 victim surcharge and £85 in court costs. They also sought for deprivation of the £20 note.
