They also questioned whether a new fence along Rayrigg Road could be installed without harming mature trees. However, the report said wrapping the whole front elevation in green metal cladding would introduce a “materially different and discordant” finish, making it the dominant feature of the house and breaking the visual cohesion of Rayrigg Rise. Local design guidance says metal wall cladding should only be used sparingly as part of a carefully considered scheme that does not compromise the area’s sense of place. The report considered the use of green metal cladding would cause an "unacceptable impact" on the character and appearance of the area.
