India achieved a major cultural milestone on July 25 as the ancient Buddhist landmark of Sarnath in Uttar Pradesh was granted recognition. Out of the 25 newly added entries, 19 are cultural properties, five are natural reserves, and one is designated as a mixed heritage site. The UNESCO World Heritage Committee officially inscribed 25 new properties into its World Heritage List during its 48th session held in Busan, South Korea, from July 19 to July 29.
