Brighton and Hove City Council, one of only five areas in England to receive the grant through the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, will use the funds to launch the Sussex Six campaign, designed to get more Sussex produce on shelves and menus. Councillor Bella Sankey, leader of Brighton and Hove City Council, said: "I’m excited to launch the Sussex Six campaign in Brighton and Hove and I would encourage Brighton and Hove retail and hospitality businesses to sign the Sussex Six pledge to serve and sell local produce. "I’m also urging local residents to support our local businesses – we can grow our economy, create more jobs and opportunities and make our lives more sustainable by buying local and supporting our local food sector." The council will work with the Brighton and Hove Food Partnership and other organisations to expand opportunities for local food suppliers, including access to public sector outlets like schools and hospitals. Businesses that sign the Sussex Six pledge will receive free membership to the Sussex Food and Drink Network, a directory listing, a promotional window sticker and a marketing pack.
