After reading about Ilha da Queimada Grande, also known as "Snake Island," on the BBC Wildlife website, nine-year-old Leo learned that the island is heavily restricted to everyone except scientists and the military to protect its endangered golden lancehead vipers. Wanting to explore it himself, Leo spent months creating a mobile web game, Snake Island, where players act as vipers defending their habitat from human invaders. Seeing a connection with their "Play is how we learn" mission, they guided him through the developer testing process and officially published his game globally for free online. Leo’s game and journey have been featured in the print edition of BBC Discover Wildlife magazine. His published game can be played for free on the Poki website.
