Firefighters battled a fire that broke out in a flat on the top floor of a residential building in Hollingdean Terrace, Brighton, in the early hours of Thursday morning. One man taken to hospital for treatment after inhaling smoke. Nearby properties were evacuated as a precaution, and residents in the area were urged to keep doors and windows closed while crews worked. The public was again asked to avoid the area as crews made what the service described as "steady progress" in bringing the blaze under control. The incident was scaled back to three appliances by 4.30am, with ESFRS confirming the fire had been fully extinguished.
