Several schools across Florida, Georgia and Colorado are preparing to introduce a controversial new security technology this academic year, autonomous drones designed to respond to active shooter situations within seconds. The drones, developed by Austin-based security company Mithril Defense, are equipped with features including pepper gel, flashing strobe lights, sirens and high-speed impact capabilities. At least nine schools across the three states will receive the systems, including three schools in Florida, five in Georgia and one charter school in Colorado.
