Srinagar: An Associate Professor in the Department of Community Medicine at Government Medical College (GMC), Handwara, has had his engagement cancelled by the Jammu and Kashmir Government for non-compliance with the terms and conditions of his appointment. 590-JK(HME) of 2026 issued on Wednesday, the Health and Medical Education Department stated that the doctor’s engagement, made under the provisions of S.O. 364 of 2020 lays down the terms and conditions for engagement of faculty members in government medical colleges on an academic arrangement basis. The provisions include requirements related to service obligations, resignation procedures, and the mandatory notice period to be followed by faculty members. The doctor has denied the allegations, calling the procedures clinically justified, while the case has triggered debate within the medical community.
