Kolkata: In a major development, three doctors have been nominated to the West Bengal Medical Council (WBMC) by the state Health Department in a move aimed at reshaping the composition of the state's medical regulatory body.
This marks the first instance of the state government nominating new members to the medical council after the BJP came to power in West Bengal.
The latest nominations are expected to bring changes in the representation of the West Bengal Medical Council, which is responsible for regulating medical professionals and maintaining standards of medical practice in the state.
Medical Dialogues had previously reported that Alleging that West Bengal Medical Council (WBMC) is involved in "unlawful and unethical activities", a social services organisation, has urged the Chief Minister and Health Minister of the State to intervene.
