Western and central Busan went under a 폭염중대경보 (Severe Heat Wave Warning) from 11am on July 30. That designation did not exist last summer, and for anyone doing outdoor work in this country, it is the part of the story that matters. Busan's record 38.8 was air temperature; the highest apparent temperatures in the region that day were recorded around 37 to 38. Under a heat wave warning, the Ministry of Employment and Labor advises suspending outdoor work between 2pm and 5pm. Under the new Severe Heat Wave Warning, it advises suspending all outdoor work except emergency measures.
