BRAINERD — On July 28-29, eighth through 12th graders sampled health care careers in a hospital setting for no cost in Brainerd.
Kathy Cottew, a workforce development specialist at Essentia Health, said the second day began with day-in-the-life presentations from health care professionals and ended with a taco bar.
The Brainerd chapter of HealthForce Minnesota’s Scrubs Camp was put on through a partnership between Essentia Health, the Brainerd Lakes Chamber, Sourcewell and Central Lakes College.
Cottew said a big misconception about health care as a career field is the underestimation of its size and scope.
"There are so many health care careers that offer on-the-job training or apprenticeship programs or are shorter programs,” Cottew said.
