In one of those cases, the South Bend Police Department was called to Nimtz Parkway, near Bendix Drive and Old Cleveland Road, just before 9 p.m. for reports of a man shooting at passing vehicles. "A person was apparently, randomly just walking around just firing at passing vehicles," said SBPD Chief Scott Ruszkowski. While this shows random crime does happen and can happen to anyone, cases like this remain rare. It's still unclear at this time whether passing vehicles were hit by gunfire.
