Elkhart city and police officials showed a frame in the footage where the muzzle flash is visible from Gomez's firearm. Shell casings were also recovered that matched the gun they say Gomez fired. "We are very grateful that Officer Ragsdale and Officer Breneman, who have families, survived, and no additional lives were lost," said Mayor Roberson. "No matter the circumstances that led up to that moment, an Elkhart family is now grieving the permanent loss of their son, brother, and grandson," Mayor Roberson said.
