The pounds of pork were donated by the St. Joseph County Farm Bureau to the Food Bank of Northern Indiana. The pork came from the St. Joseph County Fair, but more specifically from the auction that 4-H hosts at its fairs. Four pigs were bought; the Farm Bureau purchased and donated two of the pigs to the food bank, and the other two were purchased by the Food Bank of Northern Indiana. “Today we are distributing this processed meat from one of my pigs to people who need food,” Stump said. The president of the St. Joseph County Farm Bureau, James Kemble, says there is a protein insecurity, and donating the pigs, it creates an opportunity to give back.
