ICE Regions play a key role in championing infrastructure stewardship skills and technical expertise through member events that both promote knowledge sharing and networking. These events also help establish and grow relationships with local stakeholders, which supports the ICE influence infrastructure decision making in the longer term. Early this year, I joined a South West Infrastructure Partnership event in Bristol to identify key priorities for the region over the next decade. The South West Infrastructure Partnership (SWIP) is a cross-sector infrastructure community established in 2017 by ICE South West to create lasting value for the region by breaking down silos, sparking collaborative conversations and bringing people together to create an informed, coordinated regional voice on infrastructure. SWIP, and the more recently established East Midlands Infrastructure Partnership, provide a potential model for other regions, and with increased political emphasis on devolving infrastructure decision making to regional authorities, the approach and the leadership of ICE regions are more relevant than ever.
