When someone calls themselves a nurse, patients should never have to wonder if they really are one. They deliver safe, skilled and compassionate care every day, and the public rightly places huge trust in that title. “It is about getting the safeguards right”But at the moment, the title “nurse” is not protected in the same way as “registered nurse”. This is not about creating unnecessary bureaucracy or stopping legitimate roles from using established titles. Our message is simple: if someone is using the title ‘nurse’ in a way that could mislead patients, the public deserves protection.
