The countdown of the Top 10 sports moments from Newton High School during the 2025-2026 school year is at #7 today, with Newton Junior Kent Montgomery finishing sixth at the 2026 Iowa High School Boys State Wrestling Championships. Montgomery wrestled at 120-pounds in Class 3A, and earned the first state podium finish of his career. It was also the first state podium appearance for a Newton boys wrestler since 2022. Montgomery was ranked #10 in his weight class entering the 3A tournament, and picked up three wins. He ended the season with a loss in the 5th place match, putting his overall record at 40-8.
