The Washington County Board of Supervisors heard the quarterly report from Hawkeye Area Community Action Program staff on the county’s General Assistance. HACAP Washington County Operations Director RenElla Crawford gave the report, “For the fourth quarter we helped two individuals. A policy change for General Assistance was approved by the Washington County Board of Supervisors in May of last year. The change made the percentage of income 150 percent above the poverty level according to the federal guidelines. According to the Iowa Health and Human Services Community Health Assessment and Improvement Plan, the poverty level in Washington County is approximately 7.1%.
