This expression made its way into everyday speech from Church Slavonic. During the Divine Liturgy, a priest will commemorate the saints, the deceased and the living members of the church – the patriarch, the primates of the local churches, the bishops and Orthodox Christians – in the hope of resurrection and eternal life. At this moment, the choir responds: "…and everyone and everything." Interestingly, in Church Slavonic, ‘vsekh’ and ‘vsya’ are forms of the same pronoun, but ‘vsekh’ is masculine, while ‘vsya’ is feminine.
