Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley canceled late Wednesday night a planned meeting to consider acting Attorney General Todd Blanche's nomination for the post, amid opposition from a handful of Republican senators. The senators are concerned the department under Blanche's leadership will revive the deal, since an agreement on the deal still exists in writing. “Chairman Grassley works to set President Trump’s nominees up for success in committee, not failure," a spokesperson for Grassley told The Hill. "Senators Cornyn and Tillis want written assurances from the Department of Justice regarding the Trump-IRS settlement. The cancellation comes because just one vote could derail Blanche's confirmation given the slim Republican majority.
