As Alabama lawmakers begin preparing for the 2027 legislative session, House Speaker Nathaniel Ledbetter said discussions are already underway on several major issues, including the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), prisons, public safety and the possibility of renewed gambling legislation.
House leaders, Ledbetter said, are already identifying issues likely to receive attention when lawmakers return to Montgomery.
“I think we’ve got to have a heart for these people that have to have a living,” Ledbetter said.
“I think we’ve all got to work together,” Ledbetter said.
Ledbetter has repeatedly identified workforce development as one of the state’s top long-term priorities as Alabama continues to recruit major manufacturing, aerospace and technology employers.
