Residents and business owners are mobilizing against a proposal to redevelop Meadow Plaza, a decades-old shopping center they describe as the heart of downtown Northbrook. Meadow Plaza is home to 14 businesses, some of which have operated in Northbrook for decades. “These businesses are homegrown Northbrook businesses, and many of them are owned by residents of Northbrook,” Carlisle said. Serah Cicek owns Bean Bar, a restaurant and community workspace that has occupied its Meadow Plaza location for about a year and a half. Members of Save Downtown Northbrook say they intend to continue fighting the proposal as it moves through the village’s review process.
