The new furnace will have a capacity of up to 2.5 million metric tons, making it the largest electric arc furnace in Germany and the second-largest in the European Union. Completion of the electric arc furnace is planned for 2029. Dorndorf added that the electric arc furnace at HKM will be the most powerful and energy-efficient in Germany. The new electric arc furnace will be equipped with Consteel® technology. In addition to the electric arc furnace itself, the contract includes key auxiliary systems required to operate a continuously fed furnace.
