Calls for new police station to tackle shoplifting In Worcester hotspot
['Kieran Williams']
Worcester News | News
The demand follows concerns about rates of shoplifting in Worcester, with St John's identified as one of the city’s most affected areas.
Councillor Richard Udall, who represents St John’s, said: "Shoplifting is a significant crime and is damaging the community; I receive regular complaints and concerns about the issue.
"Threats of violence against shop workers and shoplifting will lead to people refusing to work in retail and will ensure shop closures, which will decimate retail areas like St John’s.
"I asked for the police to consider having a police station in St John’s, and suggested sharing rooms at St John’s Library.
"St John's Library is approximately one mile from Worcester police station, which operates 24/7 and officers there are also tasked to focus on retail crime.
