THE Solomon Islands has signed a loan deal with Japan to support fiscal stability and economic resilience, as it pushes ahead with reforms to strengthen governance and broaden growth. He said the initiative would help the Solomon Islands strengthen governance, advance sound fiscal reforms and build “a more resilient and inclusive economy.” The loan forms part of Solomon Islands’ wider economic programme and aligns with four government priorities: stronger institutions, a productive economy, stewardship of natural wealth and greater investment in people. JICA President Akihiko Tanaka said Japan remained committed to supporting those goals, describing them as “a clear and forward-looking vision” for the Solomon Islands. Tanaka said JICA had supported Solomon Islands for nearly 50 years through work spanning infrastructure, natural resource management and public investment systems.
