Anyone visiting Charles Bridge recently may have noticed workers suspended from ropes high above the Vltava or operating from boats below. Charles Bridge is not only Prague's best-known landmark but also one of the busiest historic bridges in Europe, with around 30,000 people crossing it every day. Charles Bridge is one of the monuments we care for, but our main priority has always been St. Vitus Cathedral. My father worked on the reconstruction of Charles Bridge in the 1970s, when the company even had a stonemasonry workshop beneath the bridge. The cleaning work on Charles Bridge is expected to continue, with breaks, until late October or mid-November, before freezing weather sets in.
