Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Thursday addressed a legal challenge put forward by the Hazrath Ghouse-E-Azam Welfare Society, Panjeshah Kalikamaan, Hyderabad, regarding the participation of an elephant in an upcoming Gyarveen Shareef procession. The society approached the court stating that the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Chief Wildlife Warden failed to act on its representation made in July. However, the State Forest Department opposed the request, explaining that the elephant belongs to and is registered in Karnataka. The elephant is currently scheduled to be in Hyderabad for the Bonalu festival under strict conditions set by the Karnataka Chief Wildlife Warden, which explicitly restrict its use to specific dates and events. The court adjourned the matter for further hearing to allow the petitioner time to pursue the necessary approvals.
