Hyderabad: The next time you take a boat ride at Hussain Sagar, the person steering your boat may also be equipped to save your life during a cardiac emergency. Boat operators from Hussain Sagar, Durgam Cheruvu, Saroornagar Lake, Nagarjuna Sagar, Laknavaram, Ramappa, Somasila, Egalapenta, Koilsagar, Lower Manair Dam, Kotilingala and Raigir, among other locations, attended the programme. From CPR to AEDUsing eight advanced CPR mannequins, emergency medicine specialists trained participants to recognise sudden cardiac arrest, perform hands-only CPR for adults, administer CPR to children and infants, use an AED, manage choking incidents and place unconscious victims in the recovery position. He said boat operators are often the first responders during emergencies on lakes and reservoirs, making CPR training especially valuable as they interact with thousands of tourists every year. The organisers said educational institutions, resident welfare associations, companies and community organisations can also avail free CPR training programmes under the initiative.
