The National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) says the success of Ghana’s Revised National Urban Policy (2026–2035) will depend on coordinated efforts among government institutions, effective monitoring and strong accountability mechanisms. Dr Amoah explained that lessons from the implementation of the 2012 National Urban Policy, which achieved about 50 per cent of its targets, informed the review of the new policy. The Director-General further highlighted weak enforcement of planning regulations as a major challenge affecting sustainable urban development in Ghana. She said the success of the Revised National Urban Policy will require sustained collaboration among implementing institutions, effective monitoring, research, accountability and commitment to enforcing development regulations. The Revised National Urban Policy (2026–2035) serves as Ghana’s strategic framework for managing urban growth and promoting inclusive, resilient and sustainable cities nationwide.
