The Acting Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, says six new regulations have been passed by Parliament to support the successful implementation of the Environmental Protection Authority Act, 2025 (Act 1124). The regulations include the Environmental Assessment Regulations, Effluent Regulations, Air Quality Regulations, Ozone Regulations, Petroleum Regulations and regulations on the certification of air conditioners. Speaking on the floor of Parliament, Mr Buah said existing regulations, guidelines and manuals have also been reviewed and updated to align with the new law. He was responding to questions on how the newly enacted Environmental Protection Authority Act is being operationalised and the institutional reforms being introduced to strengthen the enforcement capacity of the EPA. According to Mr Buah, the measures are aimed at enhancing the EPA’s operational capacity and ensuring effective implementation of the new environmental protection framework.
