A former President of the Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria, Aliyu Wammako, has asked President Bola Tinubu to declare a state of emergency on the rising cost of building materials amid skyrocketing house rents across Nigeria. According to him, the growing concern over the rising cost of housing in Nigeria is understandable and deserves urgent national attention from the Tinubu administration. According to him, a government-focused policy to reduce the cost of building materials will directly make housing cheaper for Nigerians. “For this reason, if there is any need for a state of emergency, it should be on the soaring cost of building materials and housing production, not on rent. That is the surest path to affordable housing for all Nigerians,” he stated.
