Patrick Gleeson, the pioneering producer, synthesist, engineer and composer, has died aged 91. Through his work, Patrick Gleeson helped define the role of synthesisers in experimental, jazz and popular music. Born in San Francisco in 1934, Gleeson’s involvement with electronic music began in the 1960s at the San Francisco Tape Music Center, where he experimented with Donald Buchla’s pioneering modular synthesisers. The studio would become a key hub for experimental recording, later hosting sessions for artists including Herbie Hancock, Devo and Brian Eno and David Byrne.
