Aden — The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) has called for an immediate investigation into death threats targeting Yemeni journalist Mahmoud Al-Humaidi, correspondent for Al Arabiya and Al Hadath, nearly a month after the killing of his predecessor, Mohammed Aidha. In a statement released Tuesday, CPJ’s Middle East and North Africa Program Coordinator, Sarah Al-Qaddah, urged Yemeni authorities to “take swift action following death threats received by Al Arabiya and Al Hadath correspondent Mahmoud Al-Humaidi and his family.” Al-Qaddah noted that the threats come in the wake of Aidha’s killing in June, despite similar warnings that “were not taken into account.” The Media Freedom Observatory revealed Sunday that Al-Humaidi had reported receiving a threatening message from an unidentified individual suspected of belonging to the Houthi group. The message included incitement and direct accusations, labeling him a “mercenary of aggression.”
