Oman has presented a proposal to Iran for the creation of a regional mechanism to jointly manage the Strait of Hormuz, including voluntary fees on transiting vessels to fund navigation services, environmental protection, and search-and-rescue operations. According to the sources, the plan comes amid Iran’s insistence on reorganizing the strait’s management following recent developments, seeking joint administration with Oman and advocating for transit fees. Oman had earlier informed the International Maritime Organization (IMO) that it does not support mandatory transit fees but sees merit in exploring voluntary arrangements. The IMO clarified it has not participated in the discussions, stressing that any proposals on navigation management must be submitted for review by member states. Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump said Washington is holding “good talks” with Iran, warning that strikes could resume if negotiations falter.
