For the first time in its history, Samsung’s smartphone division posted a quarterly loss as rising component costs squeezed its profit margins.
Samsung’s smartphone division reports its first quarterly lossSamsung reported a profit of KRW 89.5 trillion in Q2 2026, of which KRW 89.2 trillion came from the chip division.
The MX (Mobile eXperience) division, which includes Galaxy smartphones and other mobile products, posted a loss of KRW 700 billion (over $480 million).
Samsung’s mobile division suffered a loss because of rising chip prices, which ironically helped its chip division post record profits.
Whether these launches help Samsung’s mobile division return to profitability in the second half of the year remains to be seen.
