THE City of Surrey is taking a significant step toward protecting local ecosystems and biodiversity by advancing a proposed ban on the sale of invasive plants.
“Invasive plants pose a growing threat to Surrey’s natural environment, drainage infrastructure, and waterways,” said Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke.
The proposed ban would apply to a range of invasive plants, including English ivy, Scotch broom, giant hogweed and knotweed.
The full prohibited species list includes species identified by the province and the Invasive Species Council of Metro Vancouver.
