According to the group, rising prices of food and transportation have pushed basic necessities beyond the reach of millions of Nigerians. The movement described the planned demonstration as a broad coalition of workers, students, professionals, traders, farmers, artists and other citizens seeking democratic accountability and economic justice. It maintained that meaningful reforms would only come through sustained civic engagement and urged Nigerians across the country to participate peacefully in the August 5 protest.
