Some Popeyes customers have criticized the chain after a photo of one of its self-service ordering kiosks asking diners to leave a tip sparked debate online. The discussion began after a customer shared a photo in the Retail Dead or Alive Facebook Group on July 26, showing a Popeyes kiosk at Great Lakes Crossing Mall in Auburn Hills, Michigan. Before completing their order, the kiosk displayed a prompt asking whether they wanted to “add a tip” as “a small way to thank the folks behind your crispy, juicy meal.” Popeyes says kiosk tip prompt is only being tested at select locationsFollowing the online discussion, Popeyes confirmed that the tipping prompt is not part of a nationwide rollout. Others defended the feature, arguing that customers could simply decline the prompt if they did not want to leave a tip.
