A six-year-old boy with autism was suspended from school after biting his sandwich into the shape of a gun and pointing it at a classmate. According to school records obtained by Atlanta News First, first-grader John Medina was suspended over the sandwich gesture. Reynolds argued the sandwich incident should have been treated as an opportunity to teach John why the gesture was inappropriate. In 2013, a seven-year-old Maryland student received a two-day suspension after chewing a pastry into the shape of a gun. In another instance, an 8-year-old was suspended for bringing a tiny Lego gun to school after staff classified it as a “weapon.”
