EPA Awards $1.5M Grant to Miccosukee Tribe for Recycling Infrastructure

Boca Raton, FL — July 30, 2026 — U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced $1.5 million to the Miccosukee Tribe in Miami for Tribes and Intertribal Consortia through the Solid Waste Infrastructure for Recycling (SWIFR) grant program.
“By improving Tribal recycling infrastructure EPA supports the recovery of domestic sources of raw materials, local economies and provides tangible health benefits to communities across Indian Country.”
The goal of the SWIFR grants is to improve local waste management systems, meeting Congress’ goal to create a stronger, more resilient, and cost-effective U.S. municipal solid waste recycling system.
For the Miccosukee Tribe, the grant will fully fund development of a materials recovery facility as well as upgrades at the Miccosukee Waste Facility.
The Tribe received a $100,000 EPA Solid Waste Grant in 2022, which produced the Miccosukee Integrated Waste Management Plan.
