Santa Barbara Council Hears Public Feedback on Rent-Stabilization Ordinance

The Santa Barbara City Council worked late into the night on Tuesday, hammering out the details of the city’s rent-stabilization ordinance.
During public comment, Ana Garcia addresses the Santa Barbara City Council while holding up a sign with a guillotine that reads, “Your term ends when we say so.”
“Our working-class neighbors who make Santa Barbara what it is deserve to have their basic needs met,” Garcia said.
Santa Barbara Mayor Randy Rowse, who has been against the rent-stabilization ordinance since the beginning, takes a moment during Tuesday’s meeting to defend city staff for their efforts.
Santa Barbara Councilwoman Megan Harmon stresses that she wanted to exempt only deed-restricted affordable housing from the rent-stabilization ordinance.
