The study, published in Communications Medicine, is the first formal trial of psilocybin therapy in veterans with PTSD.
Researchers at The Ohio State University found that nine of the 12 veterans no longer met the diagnostic criteria for PTSD one month after treatment.
"For a population with severe treatment-resistant PTSD, these results are striking," study co-author Stacey Armstrong said.
Of the three veterans who did not achieve remission, two showed some improvement while one experienced little change.
