Learning during the literacy camp this summer was fun for students and teachers. A summer literacy camp offered to Hurley Elementary School students through the Duke Endowment Fund, with guidelines from the UNC Frank Porter Graham Education Foundation, sought to curb that drain. Hurley Principal Jay Iadarola thanked Christ United Methodist Church on Mooresville Highway for facilitating and hosting the camp. In addition to the 24 students served by the summer literacy camp at Christ United Methodist Church, Hurley also had a math and science camp on campus too. “We were able to serve a good amount of our students over the summer,” Iadarola said.
