COAL GROVE — Just as soon as 7-on-7 football passing scrimmage season ramped itself up after the 4th of July holiday, it rapidly wound down —and came to a close this past week.
That said, and as one season ends while a new one begins, Saturday starts the dog days of August —and with it the official Ohio High School Athletic Association football season for 2026.
That’s right, mandatory football practice — along with the other OHSAA fall sports sans boys and girls golf —gets underway on Saturday (August 1), with golf having teed off on Wednesday (July 29).
For the Ohio Valley Conference and Southern Ohio Conference, the 7-on-7 season ended in earnest last Thursday evening —at both Coal Grove’s LeMaster Stadium and Wheelersburg’s Ed Miller Stadium.
At Coal Grove, the Hornets hosted eight other teams — South Point, Fairland and Chesapeake from the fellow OVC, as the SOC teams included Symmes Valley, Green, South Gallia, Valley and West.
