OpenAI has a spotty history when it comes to its generative AI models and dispelling expert advice. To further those goals, this week, OpenAI announced that it would be launching ChatGPT for Academic Researchers. Over the coming weeks, OpenAI will make ChatGPT for Academic Researchers available to 10 000 individuals at first, with plans to expand free access to the aforementioned 100 000 during the course of 2027. The program also includes training, hands-on support, and opportunities to learn from other researchers and share feedback with us,” noted OpenAI. “For institutions with ChatGPT Edu, free access granted through this program will be coordinated through the institution’s workspace,” it pointed out.
