Uma Kumaran becomes the new Minister for the Overseas Territories (Photograph supplied)A portfolio reshuffle in Britain has placed Uma Kumaran as the new Minister for the Overseas Territories. The announcement was made on Monday when the role fell into the political newcomer’s portfolio as parliamentary under-secretary at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. Ms Kumaran will replace Stephen Doughty, a Minister of State at the FCDO whose portfolio will now cover the Middle East and North Africa, Afghanistan, Pakistan and sanctions. Mr Doughty has worked as an MP since 2012 and has served as overseas territories minister for two years, visiting Bermuda at least twice during his tenure. He advocated for maintaining a strong relationship between the British Government and its overseas territories, also underscoring their rights to self-determination and autonomy.
