Prof. Anosike disclosed that the agency had established an AI Research Team to explore the application of AI and machine learning in weather forecasting, climate services and operational efficiency. As part of the agreement, both organisations will collaborate on applying artificial intelligence to climate monitoring, seasonal forecasting, early warning systems and evidence-based decision-making to improve climate services and agricultural planning in Nigeria. The MoU also provides for the establishment of a Joint Technical Committee, which will work closely with NiMet’s AI Research Team to identify priority areas of collaboration, coordinate the implementation of agreed programmes and develop joint initiatives that advance AI research, climate services, innovation and sustainable development. The partnership is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s capacity to deploy artificial intelligence and climate data in addressing weather-related challenges, improving agricultural planning and supporting national food security.
