The proposal emphasised the borough’s chalk streams and called for collaboration with Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust, Natural England, and Natural Basingstoke. He warned, however, that increasing housing targets could place pressure on balancing development with environmental protection. The motion also included a commitment for the council to lobby the government to retain the ability for local authorities to set higher BNG targets where justified.
