Time and again, evidence has shown that proactive investments in anticipatory action plans, preparedness and mitigation reduce extreme weather events negative impacts while minimizing economic losses.
Taking anticipatory actions by farmers and other stakeholders in the agriculture sector can vary depending on resources and expected weather events.
Collectively, these practices enhance soil health, improve water retention and ultimately strengthen agricultural crops’ ability to withstand heatwaves, drought, flooding and other extreme weather events.
To stay ahead of the increasing weather events and their devastating impacts on agriculture, countries must continue to invest in science by funding research.
Coordinated collaborations will go a long way to ensure that extreme weather events have minimal impacts on agriculture and food security.
