Cracked highways, a collapsed chimney at a paper factory and a partial collapse of a shopping mall were some of the visible damage July 28 following a magnitude 6.8 earthquake in the southern Japanese prefecture of Kumamoto. At least two people are dead following damage at the shopping mall, located in the city of Kashima. Rescue crews were still working late into the evening of July 28 to reach people who became trapped inside Aeon Mall when the second floor collapsed, following a reported gas explosion at the time of the quake.
